Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster FMT HSS — A Flame-Top Gateway Into the Fender Family

This model is built for players who want genuine Fender DNA without stepping into the Mexican or US-made price tiers. A flame maple top sits over a thin poplar body, and the HSS pickup layout adds a humbucker to the classic Strat recipe. The Fender Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster FMT HSS MN WPG Sienna Sunburst is the right choice for first-time electric guitar buyers and intermediate players who want a stage-ready Stratocaster with extra tonal range.

Standout Features: Flame Maple Top and HSS Pickup Flexibility

What separates this model from a standard Affinity Strat is the eye-catching flame maple top veneer paired with an HSS pickup configuration. The ceramic humbucker in the bridge position adds warmth and output for rock and blues lead work, while the two ceramic single-coils preserve the bright, articulate character that defines the Stratocaster sound. A 2-point synchronized tremolo with block saddles delivers smoother vibrato action than vintage 6-screw designs.

Body and Build — Lightweight Poplar With a Visual Upgrade

The body construction is what gives this guitar its comfortable, easy-to-play feel during long practice sessions and gigs. Poplar keeps the weight down, and the gloss polyurethane finish protects the flame maple top while letting the wood grain show through the Sienna Sunburst color.

• Flame maple top over a poplar body gives the instrument visual depth without adding stage weight.
• Body Top: Flame Maple — adds visual depth and a premium look uncommon at this tier
• Body Finish: Gloss Polyurethane — durable surface that resists scratches and wear
• Body Shape: Stratocaster — the iconic double-cutaway silhouette with full upper-bout access to high frets

Neck and Fingerboard — Slim "C" Profile Built for Speed

Neck design matters most when you're spending hours learning barre chords or running through lead lines. The bolt-on maple construction keeps the attack tight and bright, while the satin urethane finish on the back of the neck lets the hand glide smoothly during position shifts.

• Neck Material: Maple — bright tonal character with a snappy attack
• Neck Shape: "C" Shape — a medium profile that fits most hand sizes comfortably
• Fingerboard Material: Maple — smooth surface with crisp black dot position inlays
• Fingerboard Radius: 241 mm (9.5") — a modern flat-ish curve that suits both chord work and bending
• Scale Length: 648 mm (25.5") — the standard Strat scale, familiar to most electric players
• Nut Width: 42 mm (1.650") — narrow enough for fast single-note runs
• Number of Frets: 21 Medium Jumbo — accessible upper register for lead playing

Electronics and Hardware — HSS Versatility With Reliable Tuning

The electronics package is where the HSS configuration earns its keep. A 5-position blade switch opens up tonal combinations that a traditional three-single-coil Strat cannot reach, and the master volume plus dual tone controls give players familiar, intuitive shaping.

• Pickup Configuration: HSS — ceramic humbucker at the bridge, ceramic single-coils at neck and middle
• Bridge Pickup: Ceramic Humbucker — fuller output for rock, blues, and lead tones
• Neck/Middle Pickup: Ceramic Single-Coil — bright, articulate Strat chime in positions 1, 4, and 5
• Switching: 5-Position Blade — covers bridge, bridge+middle, middle, middle+neck, and neck voicings
• Bridge: 2-Point Synchronized Tremolo with Block Saddles — smoother action and better tuning stability than vintage 6-screw designs
• Tuning Machines: Sealed Die-Cast with Split Shafts — accurate tuning and easier restringing
• Strings: Nickel Plated Steel (.009–.042) — light gauge, easy on the fingers for newer players

Who Is It For — First-Time Buyers and Intermediate Players

The instrument is the right choice for beginner and intermediate electric guitar players who want a recognizable Stratocaster shape with extra tonal range from the humbucker. It suits players who are moving beyond a three-single-coil setup and want thicker bridge tones for rock, blues, or indie styles without paying for a US-made instrument. The slim "C" neck and lightweight poplar body make it approachable for younger players and adults alike, while the flame maple top gives it a stage-ready look that holds its own in a home studio or a small venue.

Brand and Product Story — Squier's Affinity Series Gateway

The Squier Affinity Series has long served as the entry point into the Fender family of instruments, offering the classic Stratocaster, Telecaster, and other iconic shapes at prices accessible to first-time buyers. The FMT variant adds a visual upgrade to the standard Affinity formula, pairing the familiar Strat body lines with a figured top veneer. As part of Squier's lineup, this model carries the design language Fender has refined since the Stratocaster's 1954 introduction, including the double-cutaway body, bolt-on neck, and synchronized tremolo.
