My favourite synth so far. Great for learning sound design. Excellent sound variety, from beautiful clean pads to plucks and percussive sounds, from unsettling noisy drones to squelchy bass. A lot of patch points. Fun to explore. It's unbelievable that currently it's almost the cheapest Behringer classic semi-modular synth remake, fantastic value. I absolutely love it. Kobol is probably NOT a good pick as your first synth. Get a Roland S-1 first, it's more expensive but it has a sequencer, basic effects and a primitive but usable keyboard; it's also battery powered, so you'll have enough flexibility. Volca Keys is another good option. You can always integrate them into a larger setup later. Another basic option for a beginner who wants to use Kobol is to get a cheap MIDI keyboard, an audio interface and route everything through a DAW on your laptop. A suggested dawless setup where Kobol really shines: KeyStep → Circuit Tracks → S-1 + (Kobol → MS70-CDR+).
