Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Obsidian Storm Satin — A Modern Les Paul Re-engineered for Speed and Drop Tuning

The Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Obsidian Storm Satin takes the iconic single-cut shape and rebuilds it around the demands of today's high-gain players. Where a traditional Les Paul runs a 24.75" scale, this model stretches the string bed to 25.5" (648 mm), giving heavier gauges the tension they need to stay articulate in drop tunings. A satin-finished, Ultra Modern weight-relieved mahogany body sits beneath a maple cap and flame maple veneer, balancing the Les Paul's classic resonance with a noticeably lighter feel on the strap. The Prophecy Les Paul Obsidian Storm Satin is built for musicians who want the look and authority of a single-cut with the technical specs of a modern metal machine.

What Sets This Prophecy Les Paul Apart

Two design choices make this guitar stand out from a standard Les Paul formula. First, Epiphone redesigned the bridge end with a LockTone Modern Tune-O-Matic paired with a through-body Frequensator-inspired string layout, where the bass and treble strings anchor at different distances to firm up low-end chug while keeping bends slinky on the treble side. Second, the Fishman Fluence active humbuckers are custom-voiced for the Prophecy series and offer three distinct tonal personalities — a modern high-output voice, a vintage PAF-inspired voice, and a single-coil-style voice — all switched via push-pull volume and tone controls, so the guitar covers aggressive rhythm work, classic humbucker warmth, and glassy cleans from a single set of electronics.

Neck, Fingerboard, and Playability — Built for Speed

The neck is where the Prophecy Les Paul earns its modern-performance billing. A thermally aged one-piece maple neck is reinforced with graphite rods for long-term stability, then carved to Epiphone's HyperGlide profile — a slim yet substantial D shape that sits comfortably in the hand without feeling thin under heavy riffing. The bound ebony fingerboard uses a 10"–14" compound radius, rounder at the nut for chord work and flatter toward the body for low-action bending, while 24 stainless steel frets with hemispherical end dressing keep the surface smooth for fast runs and aggressive vibrato.

• Neck Material: Thermally aged one-piece maple with graphite reinforcement — resists warping under string tension and climate changes
• Fingerboard: Ebony with 10"–14" (254–356 mm) compound radius — versatile curve for both chords and lead playing
• Frets: 24 stainless steel — long-lasting, corrosion-resistant, and smooth under bends
• Nut Width: 43 mm (1.69") — wide enough for confident string spacing without feeling oversized

Body, Scale, and Hardware — Stability and Sustain

The mahogany body carries an Ultra Modern weight-relief pattern that trims mass without sacrificing the Les Paul's tonal core, and the flame maple veneer top gives the Obsidian Storm finish its depth under stage lighting. The 25.5" (648 mm) scale length is the headline spec for players who tune down — it keeps low strings taut and defined where a shorter scale would feel floppy. Black hardware throughout, including locking Grover Rotomatic tuners, a GraphTech nut, and the LockTone Modern bridge, locks in tuning stability between songs and during aggressive bending.

• Body Material: Mahogany with maple cap and flame maple veneer top — classic Les Paul tonewood stack with a figured aesthetic
• Scale Length: 648 mm (25.5") — extended for drop tuning clarity and tighter low-end response
• Bridge: LockTone Modern Tune-O-Matic with through-body Frequensator-style string anchors — improves sustain and balances bass/treble tension
• Tuners: Locking Grover Rotomatic with Kidney buttons — fast string changes and reliable tuning return after bends

Electronics — Fishman Fluence Active Humbuckers

At the heart of the Prophecy Les Paul's tonal range is a pair of Fishman Fluence active humbuckers, custom-voiced for the Prophecy series and direct-mounted via Epiphone's Dual-Axis Pickup Stabilization (DAPS) system. Each pickup delivers a modern high-output voice and a vintage PAF-style voice, with a coil split accessible via the push-pull volume controls for single-coil-inspired clarity. A 3-way toggle selects the pickups, push-pull tone knobs switch between voices, and the active circuit runs on a standard 9V battery — giving players a wide tonal palette without the noise and impedance issues of older active designs.

• Pickup Configuration: HH — Fishman Fluence humbucker (neck) and Fishman Fluence humbucker (bridge) — covers modern high-gain, classic humbucker warmth, and single-coil-style tones
• Controls: 2 volume with push/pull coil split, 2 tone with push/pull voice select, 3-way toggle — extensive tonal shaping from the guitar itself
• Output: 1/4" (6.35 mm) jack, active 9V-powered — consistent output level across all three voices

Who the Prophecy Les Paul Obsidian Storm Satin Is For

The Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Obsidian Storm Satin is the right choice for guitarists who want the visual authority and mahogany warmth of a Les Paul but need modern performance specs for metal, hard rock, progressive, and drop-tuned styles. Players who regularly work in drop D, drop C, or lower tunings will benefit from the 25.5" scale's added string tension, while the Fishman Fluence active electronics give one guitar the tonal range to cover rhythm chug, soaring leads, and cleaner passages without switching instruments. The HyperGlide neck profile, compound-radius ebony fingerboard, and 24 stainless steel frets also make it a strong fit for lead players who prioritize speed and bending accuracy. A right-handed instrument with a Protector Ultralite hard case included, this model is aimed at serious intermediate to advanced players who want flagship-level specs without stepping up to a USA-built Gibson.

The Epiphone Prophecy Series — Heritage Reimagined

The Prophecy series represents a full redesign of Epiphone's most recognizable silhouettes, combining the brand's long-running association with the Les Paul shape — and its parent company's Gibson heritage — with forward-thinking performance features like the extended 25.5" scale, Fishman Fluence active pickups, and stainless steel frets. The Obsidian Storm Satin finish, black hardware, and black mother-of-pearl block inlays give this particular model a stealthy, modern aesthetic that fits the series' high-gain, performance-focused identity, while the included Protector Ultralite case makes it gig-ready straight out of the box.
